Our group and collaborations to date have focused on the use of continuous EEG (cEEG) monitoring in patients with severe brain injury, either secondary to a primary brain process or as a manifestions of systemic disease. We have several ongoing projects in the following areas: 1) the role of cEEG and cerebral oximetry (NIRS) monitoring in understanding cerebral perfusion and autoregulation in severe sepsis; 2) the impact of potentially harmful EEG patterns on management and outcome in critical illness; 3) novel approaches to invasive multimodality brain monitoring; and 4) the prognostic role of various EEG signatures in post-anoxic brain injury. In addition to being the site-PI for several trials, I have also authored chapters on neuromonitoring and have experience with multimodalty monitoring, which involves using information from probes placed in the acutely injured brain of comatose patients to guide medical management.
