Office of Student Research

Dr. Melnick completed his medical degree at the Georgetown University School of Medicine and his emergency medicine residency at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Melnick's research focuses on traumatic brain injury, informatics (EHR usability and proteomics), and overuse in healthcare. Dr. Melnick is now three years into a K08 award with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. The goal of this award is to improve clinical decisions around mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI or concussion) by shifting the paradigm for concussion care in the emergency department from unnecessary diagnostic imaging to better aftercare. The first aim of this award was to identify non-clinical, human factors that promote or inhibit the appropriate use of CT imaging in patients with minor head injury. The findings from this phase of the study were presented as a plenary paper at the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Annual Meeting.
