Biographical Info

My career path has followed the NIH’s call to physician scientists at the turn of this millennium--to pursue translational research and to advance important findings from "bench to bedside." My research rigorously evaluates the novel biomarkers of kidney injury, investigates the mechanisms by which biomarker patterns evolve in various settings of acute kidney injury, and develops innovative strategies to validate them for clinical use. I created the Translational Research Investigating Biomarker End-points (TRIBE) consortium for conducting multi-center studies on biomarkers of AKI, for their validation and subsequent FDA approval (www.yale.edu\tribeaki). The TRIBE Consortium has been very successful: we are conducting NIH sponsored multi-center studies testing biomarkers in the setting of cardiac surgery, kidney transplantation, aging, HIV and hepatorenal syndrome. My research is leading a paradigm change in the field of nephrology with the potential to revolutionize clinical management of kidney diseases.
