Dr. Tarabar joined Emergency Medicine in July 2001, after completing his residency. Dr. Tarabar is board certified both in Emergency Medicine and Medical Toxicology.
A native of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dr. Tarabar received his medical degree from the Medical School of Sarajevo, Bosnia. He also received a Master of Science in Emergency Health Services from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Furthermore, Dr. Tarabar completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital, and afterwards his medical toxicology fellowship at New York University, Bellevue Hospital/New York Poison Control Center. Dr. Tarabar is currently chief editor for the toxicology section of “E-Medicine”, a Web-MD sponsored original open access comprehensive medical textbook for all clinical fields, including Emergency Medicine.
This year Dr. Tarabar presented “Resolving Global Controversies in Medical Toxicology” at the American College of Medical Toxicology (ACMT) Symposium: Transforming Intuition into Knowledge: New Orleans, LA: October 2007. In addition he served as the moderator and organizer of the 5th Annual Medical Toxicology Spring Course for American College of Medical Toxicology (ACMT) March 15-17, 2008. In cooperation with Drs. Kirrane, Tomassoni, and Baum, Dr. Tarabar is building a Medical Toxicology Consult service at YNHH, designed to provide 24/7 toxicology consult for the all Emergency Department patients, as well as patients admitted with toxicological issues.
At the state level, Dr. Tarabar serves on a team of faculty consultants at the Connecticut Poison Control Center, and is active in training Residents and Medical Toxicology Fellows at the University of Connecticut. At the national level, he is a member of the Education Committee and Practice Committee for the American College of Medical Toxicology (ACMT).
Dr. Tarabar is also a contributing author in the most authoritative reference available in toxicology: Goldfrank’s Toxicologic Emergencies. Dr. Tarabar’s research interests center on issues related to substance abuse and prevention, as he has published several articles related to substance abuse and withdrawal.
