Community Practicum: Community-Based Participatory Research Projects

Each Scholar is expected to engage in at least one community-based participatory research project that supports the Program’s commitment to improve the health of New Haven. These projects may be done on an individual basis or with other Scholars. Each project must originate in New Haven and have a community-based partner. The goals of participation in community-based projects include:

  • Creating opportunities to apply skills developed in biostatistics, clinical and health services research methods, and community health research to community-based research projects
  • Appreciating the unique challenges and opportunities of working with community-based health organizations, including policy-makers and community advisory committees, or other collaborative environments
  • Demonstrating how clinical and health services research can be translated into health practices and/or health policy
