Yale faculty physicians in the Section of Rheumatology are dedicated to the diagnosis and management of rheumatic diseases through coordinated programs of clinical care and clinical research focused on advancing treatment and quality of life for people with arthritis, autoimmune diseases, and related conditions.

Our faculty physicians provide consultative clinical care for patients with rheumatoid arthritis, spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis, and other types of inflammatory arthritis, and osteoarthritis. We also consult on patients with autoimmune diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), Sjögren’s syndrome, polymyositis, dermatomyositis, vasculitis, scleroderma, anti-phospholipid antibody syndrome, and related autoimmune conditions. We are devoted to improving patient care through advances in quality measures and doctor-patient communication.

Our physicians work closely other specialists at Yale and Yale-New Haven Hospital, including pulmonologists, nephrologists, gastroenterologists, cardiologists, allergists, neurologists, dermatologists and surgeons, including orthopedists, to provide care for patients with complex rheumatic and autoimmune diseases.

Outpatient services are offered on the Yale-New Haven Hospital campus at the Yale Physicians Building and at the Interventional Immunology Center of the North Haven Campus of Yale-New Haven Hospital. Both facilities offer a full array of imaging and laboratory services, and access to state-of-the-art infusion centers.

Patients are seen on a referral basis only. Patients wishing to be seen in consultation should request a referral from their physician using the patient referral form that can be faxed to (203) 785-7053. For inpatient referrals from Yale-New Haven Hospital, a referral must be entered into EPIC by choosing the YMG Rheumatology option.

Among special services offered by this section are the following:

  • Outpatient and inpatient consultation services for patients with arthritis and rheumatic and autoimmune diseases
  • Management and co-management of patients with complex rheumatic and autoimmune diseases
