Yale faculty physicians in the Section of Rheumatology are dedicated to the diagnosis and management of rheumatic diseases through coordinated programs of clinical care and clinical research focused on advancing treatment and quality of life for people with arthritis, autoimmune diseases, and related conditions. Our faculty physicians provide consultative clinical care for patients with rheumatoid arthritis, spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis, and other types of inflammatory arthritis, and osteoarthritis. We also consult on patients with autoimmune diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), Sjögren’s syndrome, polymyositis, dermatomyositis, vasculitis, scleroderma, anti-phospholipid antibody syndrome, and related autoimmune conditions. For details and referrals, see our Clinical page.

Our faculty members also conduct laboratory-based, translational, and clinical research on the rheumatic and autoimmune diseases. Laboratory and translational research programs are aimed toward understanding the pathogenesis of autoimmune, inflammatory, and infection-related rheumatic diseases, including Lyme disease, and the effects of aging and immunosuppression on human immunity. Clinical research focuses on medical decision-making, outcomes, and quality measures in healthcare delivery. For details of faculty interests and accomplishments, see our Research page.
