Your VA Paperwork is extensive and is due by March 30, 2013 to Nicole Potter, Registrar of Yale Internal Medicine Residency Programs.  Nicole's mailing address is found in the VA Instructions and Application (Part 1) below.  If you have any questions about your VA Paperwork, please email Nicole Potter or call her at 203-785-7948 (M-F, 1pm to 6pm).

Orientation

Intern Orientation begins on TUESDAY, June 11, 2013 at 8:00 a.m. at the HARKNESS AUDITORIUM located inside the Yale Sterling Hall of Medicine Building, 333 Cedar Street, 1st Floor, New Haven. The Combined Medicine/Pediatrics Intern Orientation activities will involve activities with both the Department Internal Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics.

  • Participation is mandatory in all daily orientation training activities. We begin Orientation on Tuesday, June 11th and finish on Thursday, June 20th. Mary Sarah Thanas will let you  know if you begin rotations with Medicine or Pediatrics. The two interns who begin rotations with Pediatrics on Wednesday, June 19th will finish Orientation on Tuesday, June 18th.  The two interns who begin rotations with Medicine will finish Orientation on Thursday, June 20th.
  • Orientation Schedules will be finalized late May/early June.  At that time, Mary Sarah Thanas will email new Combined Medicine/Pediatrics interns a detailed orientation schedule.  You will receive a copy the morning of June 11th.
  • Payroll & Benefits Paperwork - Yale-New Haven Hospital will activate an intern's pay on the first day the intern participates in orientation. The AY2013-2014 Salary for all PGY1 Interns is $58,500 per year.
    • IMPORTANT: Watch your email for a packet of paperwork from the Yale-New Haven Hospital Housestaff Office (YNHH-HSO). We expect this be sent out by the YNHH-HSO in April.
    • Complete the web-based YNHH Mandatory Training described in the email. Login instructions are included in the email from the YNHH-HSO.
    • All YNHH paperwork and online YNHH Mandatory Training must be completed by every intern prior to the first day of Orientation or interns will be unable to participate in Orientation.
    • The YNHH Housestaff Office telephone number is 203-688-2259 if you have any questions or concerns.
  • VA Paperwork: See the "Forms" tab in this section. Complete all the VA Forms and return all VA Forms to Nicole Potter, Registrar, by March 30, 2013. Although the Combined Medicine/Pediatrics housestaff do not rotate at the VA often, the program requests that all interns to complete the VA paperwork.
  • Employment Letters: Contact Nicole Potter, Registrar, if you need a letter of employment for a apartment rental, home purchase, etc. Email her at nicole.potter@yale.edu or telephone her at 203-785-7948 (M-F, 1pm to 6pm).
  • Rotation Schedules will not be finalized until the week of Orientation. Schedules will be posted to our private MedHub website. Access instructions to our MedHub site will be provided to interns during Orientation.
  • Rotations begin with Medicine on FRIDAY, June 21, 2013 with pre-rounds in the morning. If you are scheduled by the residency program to start rotations with Pediatrics, you will begin Pediatric rotations on Wednesday, June 19th. Mary Sarah Thanas will let you know if you begin rotations with Medicine or Pediatrics.

Schedule Requests

Combined Medicine-Pediatric Interns will complete one schedule request that they will be notified by email about in April.  The schedule request will ask you various detailed questions including your preferences for vacation time.
