Internal Medicine Residency Programs

Welcome! The Yale Department of Internal Medicine offers preliminary and categorical Internal Medicine Residency positions. We offer both a Primary Care and Traditional Internal Medicine Residency Program. Both programs are integrated into the core missions of our Department and have many areas of overlap while also offering unique training opportunities. Our Primary Care and Traditional Residency Programs provide outstanding clinical training and academic opportunities for students interested in a career in internal medicine whether it be as a practicing or academic General Internist or Subspecialist. We strongly encourage all students interested in categorical internal medicine training to apply to both of our programs and learn the unique features of each through the interview process. Students do not reduce their competitiveness for either program by applying to both.

In collaboration with our colleagues in the Department of Pediatrics, we also offer an outstanding combined training program in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics that leads to Board eligibility in both fields.

Links to each residency program can be found on the right. Some of the details include how to apply, curriculum, faculty, staff, and interview days.
