Medical Oncology: Subset Medical Oncology Faculty
Dr. Gould Rothberg is currently appointed as Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine (Medical Oncology) at the Yale School of Medicine with secondary appointments in the Departments of Chronic Disease Epidemiology and Pathology. She received her MD (1994), MPH (2005) and PhD in Epidemiology (2009) all from Yale University. Her current research is focused on developing prognostic models for early-stage cancers where the risk of recurrence following curative surgery is ~50% in the setting of standard active surveillance. Using melanoma and non-small cell lung cancer as model systems, she is evaluating the associations of tumor somatic mutations and germline genetic variation with outcome with the intent of determining predictors of prognosis that can be translated into the clinic. She is also evaluating the effects of modifiable lifestyle behaviors on survival in these cancers as these can improve the survivorship experience for patients where therapeutic intervention is not indicated. Thirdly, she is engaged in whole-exome sequencing of lesions derived from patients with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex as well as TSC2-driven sporadic tumors to identify somatic “modifiers” for the driving TSC2 mutation that might serve as novel therapeutic targets for targeted combination therapy of these lesions. Lastly, Dr. Gould Rothberg currently serves as the Medical Director of the Yale Lung and Gastrointestinal Cancer Biorepositories as well as manages the research biospecimens collected for Breast Cancer translational programs where she oversees all aspects of participant recruitment, biospecimen handling and laboratory information management. Dr. Gould Rothberg trained in Internal Medicine at Yale University (1994-1996) prior to joining CuraGen Corporation, a start-up genomics company in New Haven, where she led a research team in Pharmacogenomics (1997-2002). She rejoined the Yale Internal Medicine Traditional Residency Program in 2013 and plans to complete her clinical training in June 2016.
