Biography

Board certified in Internal Medicine, Dr. Fogerty joined the Academic Hospitalist team in 2011. His scholarly work has a strong emphasis in educating medical professionals in safety and quality issues, with a focus on cost-awareness. Since mid-2013, Dr. Fogerty has served as Co-Chief of the Generalist Firm, along with Dr. Patrick O’Connor, Chief of General Medicine.

Dr. Fogerty is the course director for the Internal Medicine Residency Quality and Safety elective rotation, and coordinates the medical student Morbidity & Mortality session for the Internal Medicine clerkship. He is active in both the Society of Hospital Medicine and the Society of General Internal Medicine, holding regional and national leadership positions. In 2013, he won the American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation/Costs of Care Teaching Value and Choosing Wisely competition for his work in developing a novel cost-awareness education tool that has been implemented nationally in Internal Medicine Residency programs entitled "Interactive Cost-Awareness Residency Exercise" (I-CARE). He also received the 2016 Society of General Internal Medicine New England Award for Excellence in Clinician Education.
