Clinician Educator

Second year fellows are given the opportunity to concentrate in either geriatric education or healthcare administration.

Fellows interested in healthcare administration will receive medical director training in a variety of settings, e.g., nursing home, community clinic, and hospital. In addition to hands on training, didactics in the essentials of healthcare administration will be provided. Fellows concentrating in healthcare administration will develop and implement a project to address a patient safety and quality issue present in one of the healthcare settings studied.

Education fellows will gain formal training in teaching; will be the primary educator for medical students, internal medicine residents, and specialist, e.g., residents and faculty in surgery and gynecology. Fellows will learn how to use a variety of resources, including web-based teaching materials, virtual patients, and small group workshops for medical students, resident curriculum design, and program evaluation.

In coordination with the Section of General Internal Medicine, teaching, curriculum development, educational evaluation and administrative structures skills will be taught. Each fellow will complete a curriculum development and evaluation project.
