Dr. Erica S. Spatz is a general cardiologist. She has a special interest in prevention and women's health. Dr. Spatz employs a comprehensive approach to preventing and treating cardiovascular disease, emphasizing nutrition, exercise, stress management and evidence-based therapies. Her clinical interests align with her research - developing more individualized approaches to disease management, along with tools to help patients become more active in their healthcare decisions. She is interested in partnering with patients to optimize their health and health outcomes.Dr. Spatz is passionate about health care access and equity. She received her undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University, majoring in Human and Organizational Development and attended the Medical School in International Health at Ben Gurion University, a program integrating population health and cross-cultural communication in the teaching and practice of medicine. Her senior thesis was conducted in a rural village in Kenya, evaluating HIV awareness, beliefs and prevention. Dr. Spatz completed her internal medicine training at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, NY, where she was chief resident and an Instructor of Medicine. She received a masters from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program at Yale University, following which she completed her cardiology fellowship at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Dr. Spatz collaborates with the China PEACE team to improve cardiovascular outcomes in China. She is a co-founder and Board Member of Project Access-New Haven, a non-profit organization that provides access to specialty care for underinsured patients.
