Uganda

Medical students at Mulago will learn about the effects of the HIV epidemic on the Ugandan population. Many of the patients hospitalized at Mulago Hospital will have quite advanced presentation of illness. Medical students will focus on learning physical exam skills that assist in diagnosis in a setting of limited availability of diagnostic instruments.

Drs. Asghar Rastegar and Tracy Rabin, Department of Internal Medicine, have started a collaboration with Mulago Hospital and Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. The affiliation between Yale and Makerere University will place Yale attendings and residents at Mulago Hospital throughout the year, funded through the Yale/Johnson & Johnson Global Health Scholars Program.
