Students participating in the Emergency Medicine elective are immersed in the acute care setting, working autonomously and under direct faculty supervision in the Yale-New Haven Hospital emergency department. Students work ~ 36 clinical hours per week and participate in the both the weekly didactic session as well as the simulation program. The Emergency Medicine elective is available to those students who have completed their General Surgery and Internal Medicine clerkships.
Final-year students will have the opportunity to manage a broad range of acute medical and surgical complaints under direct attending supervision including 40 clinical hours per week in the Pediatric Emergency Department. Participation in teaching conferences, mock codes, and a formal case presentation at the end of the rotation are required.
