Anesthesiology Basic Research

Students interested in laboratory research projects focused in the neurophysiology and neuropharmacology, of the sensations of pain and itch, and in vascular biology are encouraged to speak with Anesthesia faculty.Visiting students must appreciate that a one-month elective will enable him/her to be exposed to ongoing research, but that a longer period is necessary for meaningful participation.In particular, those interested in neurophysiology should consult with Dr. LaMotte or Dr. Chao Ma. Those students who are interested in topics in vascular and stem cellbiology should contact Dr. Laura Niklason.

Anesthesiology Advanced Clinical

This is a full-time clinical elective.  Advanced Clinical Elective is an individualized program of instruction in anesthesia subspecialties, including cardiovascular, neurosurgical, obstetrical and pediatric anesthesia.

Anesthesiology Clinical Research

Students are welcome to inquire about participating in ongoing research by the department faculty involving clinical responses to drugs affecting cardiopulmonary, central nervous and autonomic nervous system, noninvasive cardiovascular monitoring, perioperative coagulation and other topics. Visiting student must appreciate that a one-month elective will enable him/her to be exposed to ongoing research, but that a longer period is necessary for meaningful participation. Development of individual research projects is encouraged as well, and interested students should contact Dr. Silverman.Those students who are interested in complementary approaches to pain management, such as acupuncture, should contact Dr. Shu-Ming Wang.
