Medical Student Educational Programs
Clinical elective available to third and fourth year medical students
This 2- or 4-week clinical elective allows the student to explore the different sub-specialties of Ophthalmology while learning how to perform a complete eye exam. The student will learn facility with the external eye examination, slit lamp, direct and panoptic ophthalmoscopes, and begin to use condensing lenses. Clinical facilities include Yale Eye Center, Yale Health Plan, Yale New Haven Hospital Based Eye Clinic, and the Eye Department at Hill Health Center. Required reading will correlate with the case studies covered during the elective. Students who take the 4-week elective are expected to do a presentation at the end of the rotation.
