The New Haven Area
The area served by the local EMS system encompasses the city of New Haven and its surrounding towns, occupying the south-central coastline of Connecticut, along the Long Island Sound. The total population of New Haven County is 800,000, while the population of the twelve towns that form the primary service area of the sponsoring program is roughly 400,000. The area is known for its educational institutions, with Yale University, Southern CT State University, the University of New Haven, Albertus Magnus College, Quinnipiac University, and Gateway Community Technical College all in the primary service area. A large number of industrial, technology, and service companies are based in the area. While New Haven’s location provides easy access to both New York and Boston, the area boasts its own world-class recreational and cultural attractions, including theatres, concert halls, museums, and many ethnically diverse restaurants.
