Second-Year Activities

Students during their first year and second year have time to pursue extracurricular activities, including service, politics, research, and career-related student interest groups. Some of these organizations are listed on medstation.

  • The Second-Year Show

A multi-media extravaganza of videos, skits, dances and songs written by second-year students, the second-year show is performed for the whole school in the spring. Students begin writing the show in the fall, with frequent late-night rehearsals closer to the dates of performances. Since its inception, in 1949, the show has been characterized by irreverent good humor.
  • Equipment Fair

The second-year class presidents organize this event, which is held in November of the second year. Students needing medical equipment in preparation for their third-year clinical work have a chance to make group purchases to lower the cost.
  • Clerkship Meeting

In March of the second year, the deputy dean of education, the associate dean for student affairs and the registrar hold a meeting to discuss general information about the third year, clinical clerkships and scheduling.

After the clerkship meeting, students will have a chance to enter their preference for a clerkship schedule and submit it to the registrar.
