Specialties

Choosing a medical specialty is a major decision in a medical student’s career. You have to consider what patient population, organ system and type of medicine interests you. In addition, you need to consider such things as the kind of lifestyle you want and how much time you want to devote to clinical duties.

From neurology and psychiatry to sports medicine and pediatrics, more than 100 specialties are practiced by physicians at Yale. Each specialty has practitioners who are available and willing to help you as mentors and advisors.

The Office of Student Affairs offers a long list of electives and clerkships available for you to take. These clinical experiences will give you a first-hand feel for what it would be like to work in a particular specialty.
