Tutoring

Students Helping Students (SHS)

This student-directed tutorial and review program is offered for each of the basic science courses. It can be accessed through the Office of Student Affairs. SHS teams second-year students with first-year students to help them master the science curriculum and manage their time. The second-year students run problem-solving sessions drawing on their own experiences to focus first-year students’ studies and to translate difficult concepts. Sessions are held throughout the year.

In addition, a more private tutorial system is also available to students. This program can be accessed by contacting the associate dean for student affairs.

Tutorial System

The academic demands of the medical school are rigorous, and with so many claims on your time, it’s not unusual to occasionally feel the need for a little extra help.

All departments at the medical school provide an easily accessible tutorial program for students who want tutoring or re-testing. You should contact the department to find out who has been assigned to this role.

The following services are also available:

  • Practice examinations and computer programs for review and self-teaching
  • A designated computer room and learning center in the basement of the medical library.
