What students say about being minority

As an Asian American in medicine, I find myself in a tricky place, walking the fine line of still being a racial minority but not being "underrepresented." At Yale, there are resources to address this unique position of Asian Pacific Americans. Despite the lack of a large community presence, APA students are extremely active at both the med school and beyond. Moreover, Yale's flexibility allows you to create additional opportunities to work with APA communities. For instance, I will be spending four weeks in a community based Asian health center in Oakland, CA fulfilling my primary care requirement. There are few institutions as supportive of APA med students as Yale School of Medicine.
