Students of medicine, public health and the biomedical sciences come to Yale from across the United States and around the world. They go on to become leaders in academic medicine and health care and innovators in clinical practice, biotechnology, and public policy.
In addition to pursuing M.D., M.P.H., M.M.Sc., M.H.S., and Ph.D. degrees in medical school departments and the PA program, students entering the health professions may earn joint degrees with other Yale professional schools, including Divinity, Forestry & Environmental Studies, Nursing, Law and Management. The Department of Biomedical Engineering, which includes faculty at the medical school and the Faculty of Engineering, occupies a new building on Prospect Street. Residents and fellows may pursue advanced training in 75 specialty areas.
Programs in the health professions are strengthened by the close proximity of the main Yale campus, located immediately adjacent to the medical center. Numerous opportunities for collaborative and self-directed learning are enhanced by relationships with departments in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Yale Graduate School and the other professional schools. In addition to those named above, they include Art, Architecture, Drama and Music.
