During our studies, participants lie on their back inside the MRI tunnel. A helmet with a mirror slides over their head so they can watch a movie, plus animations and pictures that we have made. Sometimes children play games in the scanner. It's important to stay still so that the brain pictures are not blurry. We understand that most children are somewhat fidgety and we practice beforehand to help children grow used to lying very still. The scanner makes very loud noises so we have everyone wear headphones and earplugs. Children receive up to $100 in compensation for each MRI session.
