| Announcements Faculty Searches LaunchedI am pleased to announce that we have launched two new faculty search committees, one for senior faculty members of the Cancer Biology Institute on the West Campus led by Yossi Schlessinger, and a second for a leader of the Phase I Developmental Therapeutics Program led by Roy Herbst. Both of these searches are integral to our translational research efforts and goals and finding the appropriate candidate is essential to our success. Please contact Yossi and Roy directly if you have any suggestions for either search.

Updates from Smilow Town Hall Thank you to those who attended the Town Hall on Wednesday. We value your input and hope to continue to receive your feedback on Smilow operations and patient care. If you have not done so already, please complete the online survey. Our patient volume is steadily growing and we are on track to see 60,000 outpatient visits in 2011. Inpatient volume is also increasing, with 1,950 patients on the inpatient floors in the first quarter. In addition, we have cared for 11,750 patients during chemotherapy treatment visits and 7,750 patients in outpatient radiation oncology in the first quarter. Our goal is to roughly double the volume in Smilow Cancer Hospital over the next five years. Over the last year, the leadership of Smilow has established an Oncology Patient Safety and Quality Council and a Procedures and Operations Committee. In addition, both outpatient and inpatient staffing have been enhanced. The next year will see an increased focus on quality priorities and performance metrics. Otolaryngology Clinic Opened Benjamin Judson, Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology in the Head and Neck Cancer Program, began seeing patients at Smilow Cancer Hospital this week. Dr. Judson's clinic is in the multispecialty clinic on the 4th floor.
