| Momentum Fund I'm pleased to announce that in the next few weeks a new giving program will launch to support our combined efforts at Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven.
Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital have joined forces to create
Momentum Fund , which will provide essential funding for breakthrough cancer research and compassionate patient care by combining the gifts of many donors. This support will be critical to ensure that new research can be pursued without delay, promising treatments are aggressively developed, and patient care is continuously enhanced.
I invite you all to help launch this important collaboration by running with me in the Annual Labor Day New Haven Road Race. Let's run together in running t-shirts with our Momentum Fund logo, which are available to each of you for $25. Register to run online

YCC Strategic Planning Members of Yale Cancer Center's senior leadership team recently spent two days working on a strategic plan for our Center to help drive our success over the next three years. We continue to work on the plan and hope to have a finalized version, including a mission and vision statement, goals, and prioritized initiatives to share with the Yale Cancer Center membership in the coming months. This plan will map out our work for the next several years and help to guarantee we achieve our goals. Thank you to the faculty and staff who have participated and dedicated their time to ensure the success of this process.

Thank you to those of you who attended the Smilow Cancer Hospital Town Hall last Wednesday. We are happy to report that our inpatient patient satisfaction scores are in the 99th percentile. This is a strong reflection of the dedication and hard work of each member of our staff and faculty over the last eight months during the transition to the new facility.
The building is over 90% occupied and the final surgical specialty suites will be ready for use later this fall. We have successfully recruited several leading members of the clinical and administrative staff over the last several months and will continue our recruitment efforts into 2011. In addition, improving clinical trial accruals will be a main clinical priority for the next several years.
We urge each member of the Smilow Cancer Hospital staff to bring any ideas or concerns they have to the appropriate clinical program leaders for discussion during our regular Clinical Leadership Panel meetings. Thank you all for your continued efforts to ensure our patients receive the best clinical care.

The ASCO Cancer Foundation Improving Cancer Care Grant, funded by Susan G. Komen for the Cure The
Improving Cancer Care Grant will provide funding for research studies that implement and evaluate new ways to solve major problems in quality of, access to, and delivery of health care. Proposals must be focused on developing solutions to current problems, not just describing disparities in care that currently exist. Project Proposals must be research-focused, with specific aims and hypotheses, not a request for support of a program. Proposals are not required to focus on breast cancer, but the study findings must have general applicability to breast cancer care.
A required letter of intent is due September 1, 2010.
