| Kevin Kelly Appointed to ODAC Congratulations to Dr. Kevin Kelly who was appointed to the FDA's Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee (ODAC). One of 13 committee members, Kevin will play an integral role in reviewing new drugs to treat cancer. The committee assesses and evaluates data concerning the safety and effectiveness of marketed and investigational human drug products for use in the treatment of cancer and makes appropriate recommendations to the Commissioner of Food and Drugs, Dr. Margaret Hamburg.
Ocular Oncology Program I am delighted that Dr. Miguel Materin recently joined Yale Cancer Center as Director of Ocular Oncology. Dr. Materin brings a new level of experience to Yale to treat patients with eye cancers and will build on the already strong Department of Ophthalmology and the Yale Cancer Center Melanoma Program. We are currently working together to develop plans to establish an ocular oncology unit in Smilow Cancer Hospital.

Smilow Update
Committee Progress There is significant activity taking place among the Smilow transition teams as they prepare for the initial phase of occupancy, scheduled to begin in just over seventeen weeks. Construction remains on schedule for an October 26th opening of Radiation Oncology in the Lower Level.
The Occupancy Planning team continues to work with contractors and internal departments to coordinate construction, equipment installation, move planning, and all other building-related tasks. The Education and Orientation team is currently training orientation tour guides and developing training materials and will shortly begin producing the orientation video, which will include interviews with Smilow leadership and patients. The Operations Planning team is dividing into task forces of 50 plus people to create the individual operating plans for their department. These plans will be aligned across services to ensure consistency and standardization throughout Smilow Cancer Hospital.
For more information on the transition, David Vinas, Transition Leader, can be reached at 688-2973.

Shared Resource Highlight
Genetic Counseling Program The Yale Cancer Genetic Counseling Program provides clinical services to individuals at increased risk for hereditary cancer due to their personal or family histories of cancer. This program is based on a three part counseling model consisting of 1) obtaining a detailed medical and three-generational family history; 2) calculating a personalized risk assessment and providing options for prevention, surveillance, and genetic testing; 3) coordinating and interpreting genetic testing, and developing a personalized management plan based on the test results.
