I am eagerly looking forward to our retreat on Monday. We will have updates from several of our most accomplished programs and will outline some initial plans to enhance our clinical trials operations.
We are making progress on selecting an electronic medical record for outpatient cancer care. This record will allow us to be paper free once it is up and running. Chemotherapy ordering will be a critical safety feature of this product. In addition to being an important patient safety initiative, the new EMR will be a key aid in streamlining clinical and translational research.
The Cancer Center includes a remarkable group of clinicians, scientists, and investigators. It is essential that we get the word out to the public and our colleagues at national meetings that we are all members of an NCI designated comprehensive cancer center. An important part of this is that we all use the YCC and Smilow Cancer Hospital slide decks whenever possible at local, national, and international meetings. These are ideal for academic or patient lectures.
Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs)
I had a terrific meeting with Jon Soderstrom from the Office of Cooperative Research. We are committed to working together to streamline the process for approving and activating MTAs for Cancer Center researchers. If you are having difficulty with this process please let either Jon or me know and we will work together to solve this.

There are 380 construction workers currently working on the completion of Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven. 99% of the building's exterior is finished along with 95% of the roof. Each year we welcome cancer survivors and their families to commemorate Cancer Survivors Day with us and to learn more about the survivorship resources available at Yale Cancer Center. Many patients find this day extra special when they see their physicians and nurses celebrating with them. Please plan to attend on June 3rd.
