Yale Cancer Center celebrates the recognition of DNA repair by the Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded today to Tomas Lindahl, Paul Modrich, and Aziz Sancar. Aziz Sancar was a post-doctoral fellow in Therapeutic Radiology at Yale School of Medicine in the laboratory of Dean Rupp. While at Yale, Aziz performed some of the initial work elucidating the mechanism of nucleotide excision repair in E. coli, after which he went on to dissect the pathway in human cells at the University of North Carolina. "We are very proud of Aziz and we congratulate him on his tremendous achievement," said Peter M. Glazer, MD, PhD, Robert E. Hunter Professor and Chair of Therapeutic Radiology.
