Dr. Baxter is an expert in structural and functional studies of proteins. His current research focus is the A. gambiae complement pathway. As a postdoctoral fellow he determined the crystal structure of TEP1, the central molecule in this pathway that plays a major role in the mosquitoes immune response to malarial parasites. Ongoing research in Dr. Baxter's laboratory is aimed at understanding the molecular basis of this immune response and the development of novel chemical entities for vector-based malaria control strategies.
