Tucked away downstairs in the library is the Cushing Center: visit this one-of-a-kind center including the unique Brain Tumor Registry and the drawings, photographs and rare book collection of Dr. Harvey Cushing. As part of the tour, see the current exhibit on the digitization of historical books. YSM’s own Cushing/Whitney Medical Library has been contributing to the Medical Heritage Library, an online resource of free and open historical resources in medicine, to inform the practice of contemporary medicine and strengthen our understanding of where these practices have come from. On display in the library will be selections from the several century-old items that are also now available online. Learn from Melissa J. Grafe, Ph.D., the John R. Bumstead Librarian for Medical History, about the process and practices of digitizing these works for the world to see. To take a sneak peek, visit: http://digital.medicine.yale.edu/ This tour will be offered twice on Saturday afternoon.

In the Fall of 2011, YSM distributed the first Apple iPad tablets to our students to download course curricula, take notes in class, and assist them in their clinical training. This spring, YSM students in the clinics will have secure access to the Yale New Haven Health System electronic medical record system, EPIC, using their iPads, and in their clerkships and courses several YSM professors are piloting the use of Kahn Academy-style educational videos to supplement teaching in the classroom. Join Michael Schwartz, Ph.D., associate dean for curriculum, for a hands-on demonstration of how Yale is in the forefront of curriculum delivery and looks forward to the future of medical education and incorporating new technologies.
